The\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imo.org\/en\/OurWork\/Security\/Pages\/Port-Security-Project.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span data-ccp-charstyle=\"Hyperlink\">Port Security Project<\/span><\/span><\/a><span lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0aims to ensure the safety and security of port facilities on vital trade routes in the EA-SA-IO region critical to the economic development and prosperity of the Global South.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\">Alongside IMO, the project, which was\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\">initiated in 2020,<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0is jointly implemented by the International Criminal Pollice Organization (INTERPOL) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) under the strategic direction of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC).\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\">The Port Security Project\u00a0provides technical expertise to increase safety and efficiency in the maritime sector. The event was hosted by the South Africa Maritime Safety Authority<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\">,<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0which holds observer status on the project.
