This new generation equipment replaces the old gantry cranes that were recently decommissioned at berth 16.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">These new, modern gantry cranes have significantly improved features compared with their predecessors. They are equipped with double-lift spreaders, capable of lifting and handling two containers simultaneously, compared with just one previously.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The acquisition of this new equipment will double the productivity of the berth and reduce the working time of ships at berth 16 by almost 40%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As part of a wider drive to modernise its equipment, the KPA has also acquired new reach stackers, empty container handlers, and terminal tractors, among others, to improve efficiency and cope with increasing freight volumes in the ports.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In addition, the port of Lamu, which recently acquired three new mobile port cranes, will also receive STS gantry
