In a significant move aimed at bolstering cooperation and coordination among African countries in maritime affairs, the African Maritime Advisory Group (AMAG) has adopted a revised constitution. This decision, made during a meeting held on the sidelines of the 111th Session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Legal Committee in London, marks a pivotal moment for the region’s maritime interests.<\/p>\n

AMAG, composed of representatives from various African nations to the IMO, recognized the need for a more cohesive approach to address maritime challenges and opportunities. The revised constitution serves as a strategic tool to enhance cooperation and coordination efforts among member states, ultimately advancing Africa’s maritime agenda on the global stage.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>His Excellency, Mr. Dumisani Theophelus Ntuli, the 1st Alternate Permanent Representative of the Republic of South Africa, commended AMAG’s proactive steps towards fostering unity and progress in maritime affairs. As a key figure in the establishment of AMAG nearly two decades ago, Mr. Ntuli expressed his satisfaction with the group’s evolution and achievements over the years.<\/p>\n

Acknowledging the expanding scope of AMAG’s involvement, Mr. Ntuli encouraged more African countries to establish permanent missions at the IMO. He emphasized the importance of ensuring a strong African presence within the IMO framework, highlighting AMAG’s role as a supportive platform for all Permanent Representatives in promoting a unified African voice on maritime issues.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead, Mr. Ntuli proposed a special celebration in 2025 to commemorate AMAG’s 20 years of service and contribution to Africa’s maritime sector. He also underscored the significance of the Revised African Maritime Transport Charter, a milestone achievement facilitated by AMAG during its formative years in the early 2000s.
