Sierra Leone\u2019s Minister of Transport and Aviation, Hon. Ambassador Alhaji Fanday Turay has just received the mantle-ship of the Chancellor and Board Chairman of the Regional Maritime University Board of Governors. The handing over ceremony of the role of the Chancellor and Board Chairman was done during the 31st meeting of the RMU Board of Governors, held at the Africa Unity Auditorium in Nungua, Accra, on Friday 28th June,.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Turay succeeds Honourable Ebrima Sillah, the Minister of Transport, Works, and Infrastructure of the Republic of the Gambia, who held the position for two years.<\/p>\n

In his speech, Ambassador Turay praised his predecessor’s excellent work and tangible achievements, who during his term of office had enabled the RMU to make significant advancements, including the acquisition of seven new buses, renovations to cadet accommodations, and the construction of an administrative annex complex that houses the Business Development Office, a conference room, public relations office, and a staff canteen.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Turay, also called on all to come on board and put synergies together in developing the university.<\/p>\n

Turay pledges to focus on key areas such as enhancing academic excellence by continuing to uphold the highest standard of teaching and research, ensuring that their curriculum is most vigorous and relevant to changing maritime trend, strengthening industry partnerships as collaboration with industries is essential to MRU\u2019s Vision,
\npromote an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and supported, and invest in learning equipment and infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Amb. Alhaji Fandy Turay extended appreciation to colleague board members, donor agencies, and partners for their continued support and promised delivering success in his role as Chancellor and Board Chairman of the Regional Maritime University (RMU) Board of Governors.<\/p>\n

The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including the Minister of Transport from Cameroon, the Deputy Minister of Transport from Ghana, the Secretary-General of the Maritime Organization of West and Central Africa, and the Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Liberia Maritime Authority. Sierra Leone\u2019s delegation was led by Ambassador Turay and included officials from the Ministry of Transport and Aviation, Parliament, Maritime Administration, and the Sierra Leone Ports Authority. Her Excellency, Francess Virginia Anderson (PhD), and some staff of the Sierra Leone High Commission were also present.<\/p>\n

The Regional Maritime University is a leading institution devoted to the advancement of maritime knowledge and skills.
