On Monday 12 August 2024, the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, officially launched the development strategy for the blue economy 2024-2033 and Mozambique’s portfolio of blue investment opportunities.<\/p>\n

The strategy, which is based on six key pillars: fisheries and aquaculture; renewable energy and marine extractive industry; natural capital, environment and circular economy; tourism and culture; maritime transport, port infrastructure and logistics, as well as maritime safety, aims to transform key blue economy sectors in the country. These pillars are aligned with four cross-cutting axes: good governance; knowledge, innovation and technologies; climate change and communities, ensuring a holistic and integrated approach.<\/p>\n

In his speech, the French President stressed the crucial importance of the oceans and marine resources for sustainable development, emphasising their role in food security, poverty eradication and the fight against climate change. He also warned that threats to marine ecosystems, such as illegal fishing, pollution and weak enforcement, must be tackled to ensure the preservation of the oceans.<\/p>\n

\u2018We want this strategy to become a point of reference for all those interested in the marine and aquatic economy\u2019, said Filipe Nyusi, reaffirming the government’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.<\/p>\n

The Minister for the Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries, L\u00eddia Cardoso, underlined the importance of the launch, thanking all the participants for their involvement and stressing the importance of collaboration between the government, the private sector and civil society.<\/p>\n

The event marked a moment of unity and commitment to the blue economy, with the aim of sustainably exploiting Mozambique’s precious marine resources, guaranteeing benefits for future generations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
