{"id":16298,"date":"2024-11-11T12:58:49","date_gmt":"2024-11-11T11:58:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/?p=16298"},"modified":"2024-11-11T13:06:40","modified_gmt":"2024-11-11T12:06:40","slug":"lebombo-border-open-for-cargo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/lebombo-border-open-for-cargo\/","title":{"rendered":"Lebombo border open for cargo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/lebombo_0.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16300 size-full alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/lebombo_0.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"221\" \/><\/a>The Border Management Authority (BMA) has announced that cargo operations at the Lebombo Border Post have resumed following a closure of the port last week.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The border post was closed following protests owing to political tensions in Mozambique, which have culminated in reports of vehicles being burnt on the Mozambican side of the border.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">BMA Commissioner, Dr Michael Masiapato, said this will clear the path for a full reopening of that port.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe are pleased to announce that the Mozambican systems have been restored, with processing activities resuming at the KM 4 checkpoint on the Mozambican side.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis development paves the way for the full reopening of the port and enables the BMA and SARS teams to work diligently in clearing the current cargo backlog,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The BMA said in a statement that it is working in partnership with the South African Revenue Service (SARS) to clear the cargo backlog.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u201cThe port is now open for cargo movement after the Mozambican authorities managed to address challenges with their systems to facilitate processing through the Ressano Garcia port of entry into Mozambique.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe initial reopening of the port was to manage the movement of persons but this morning, the Mozambican authorities worked tirelessly to address cargo systems for smooth border processing,\u201d the BMA said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Travelers have been warned to \u201cremain cautious and stay informed of travel updates when planning trips to Mozambique\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe BMA and SARS will continue to monitor the situation closely, ensuring smooth and secure port of entry operations for the benefit of all South African citizens and the broader trade community,\u201d the BMA said. \u2013\u00a0<strong>SAnews.gov.za<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Border Management Authority (BMA) has announced that cargo operations<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":16300,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_eb_attr":"","_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[40,442,1767],"tags":[1493,2687,31,32,1485,1297,1388,75,45,897],"class_list":["post-16298","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-blog","category-news","category-south-africa","tag-africa-en","tag-daily-news","tag-maritimafrica","tag-maritime","tag-maritime-in-africa","tag-maritime-industry-en","tag-news","tag-ports","tag-shipping-en","tag-south-africa"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
