Lloyd\u2019s Register Foundation is inviting organisations and communities to apply to its \u00a315 million funding call, as it looks to fund projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing the safety of life and property through the development of standards and education.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Called the \u2018Engineering a safer world\u2019 fund, we\u00a0<\/span>want\u00a0<\/span>to use the money to help make a difference in the places where improved safety can make the biggest impact. We are keen to scale our impact by being led by local community needs, particularly in low and middle-income countries<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0through building strong partnerships, commissioning new evidence, data and knowledge to increase understanding of safety across key priority areas, and leveraging resources from other likeminded organisations who share our social purpose.<\/span><\/p>\n

The funding<\/span>\u00a0supports the delivery of\u00a0<\/span>Lloyd\u2019s Register Foundation\u2019s new five-year strategy<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and applicants can apply for up to \u00a31 million to fund their project or initiative. We are calling for proposals that will help us enhance safety across\u00a0<\/span>three interconnected priority areas:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    \n
  1. Safer maritime systems<\/strong><\/span>Reducing and preventing harm for those working in growing maritime economies. Ensuring everyone across the maritime system is motivated to work together towards an ocean economy that keeps people safer on land and at sea.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Safer, sustainable infrastructure<\/strong><\/span>Developing new technologies and methodologies that are used safely within broader engineering practices, without causing harm elsewhere. Ensuring critical infrastructure is resilient and fit for purpose to meet the changing needs of society and a changing climate.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Skilled people for safer engineering<\/strong><\/span>Developing skills for safety, safety knowledge, leadership, and safer processes where they are most needed. Increasing the number and diversity of engineers, and those in engineering-related professions, especially in sectors and geographies where we can have the most impact.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Tim Slingsby, Lloyd\u2019s Register Foundation\u2019s Director of Skills and Education, explains: \u201cOur mission as a global charity is to engineer a safer world. Protecting people from harm, ensuring infrastructure is safer and more resilient, and supporting initiatives that build capacity, capability and understanding in the engineering workforce remain the driving force behind everything we do.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
