This initiative aligns with Liberia&#8217;s commitment to adhering to the standards set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and aims to effectively monitor dangerous cargoes entering the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The commissioning ceremony, held at the NPA headquarters, was graced by senior officials, including Deputy Managing Director for Administration (DMDA) Hon. James R. Bernard, Deputy Managing Director for Operations (DMDO) Emmanuel M. Horton Sr., and Comptroller Varney Barfalie, CPA.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking at the event, Hon. James R. Bernard emphasized the critical role of the new department in safeguarding the nation\u2019s ports and promoting international compliance. \u201cThe establishment of the Port State Coordination Department is a proactive measure to ensure that all dangerous cargoes are thoroughly monitored, handled, and documented in line with IMO regulations. This step not only ensures safety but also increases transparency and accountability in port operations,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Deputy Managing Director for Operations Emmanuel M. Horton Sr. added that the department will serve as a key instrument in enhancing Liberia\u2019s maritime profile. \u201cThis initiative demonstrates our commitment to global maritime standards while opening new revenue streams for the NPA. By ensuring strict compliance, we enhance the integrity and sustainability of our port operations,\u201d Horton remarked.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Comptroller Varney Barfalie highlighted the department\u2019s potential to bolster revenue generation for the NPA, stating, \u201cBy monitoring and regulating dangerous cargoes effectively, we can ensure proper tariffs and compliance fees are collected, contributing significantly to our overall financial growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Port State Coordination Department will:<br \/>\n&#8211; Ensure all dangerous cargoes entering Liberia are monitored and documented in compliance with IMO standards.<br \/>\n&#8211; Promote safety and environmental protection within Liberia\u2019s ports.<br \/>\n&#8211; Strengthen revenue collection mechanisms through enhanced oversight.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This strategic move underscores the NPA\u2019s unwavering dedication to modernizing port operations and contributing to Liberia\u2019s economic development.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The National Port Authority remains committed to fostering innovation,
