The investigation also revealed that all affected barges were laden with crude oil at the time of the explosion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(34, 34, 34)\">At approximately 14:10 hours on February 19, a fire broke out on the dry crude storage barge BESTAF5 at Cawthorne Channel 1, spreading to other barges. The affected vessels include the Goshen Link fuel barge, owned by Geonofeg Resources Limited, and the Godgift fuel barge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(34, 34, 34)\">NIMASA\u2019s Director General, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, reaffirmed the agency\u2019s commitment to maintaining cleaner\u00a0waters<\/span><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(34, 34, 34)\">\u00a0within Nigeria\u2019s maritime domain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-ogsc=\"rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><a href=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Oil-Spill-Pic-2-1024x767-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17421\" src=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Oil-Spill-Pic-2-1024x767-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"767\" srcset=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Oil-Spill-Pic-2-1024x767-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Oil-Spill-Pic-2-1024x767-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Oil-Spill-Pic-2-1024x767-1-768x575.jpg 768w, https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Oil-Spill-Pic-2-1024x767-1-720x540.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(34, 34, 34)\">\u201cWe will work closely with other relevant government agencies and host communities to manage the environmental impact of this incident. Our team has conducted multiple site visits, and these will continue until a final report determines both the immediate and underlying causes of the explosion. Learning from this event is critical to preventing similar occurrences in the future,\u201d he stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(34, 34, 34)\">Dr. Mobereola emphasized that while pollution control is a priority for NIMASA, the agency remains committed to pollution prevention as the ultimate safeguard
