This initiative aims to reestablish trust, regain global recognition, and attract increased financial support and investment to drive sustainable development and transformation across the sector.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking during a live radio simulcast on State Radio on Monday, June 2, 2025, Acting Director General J. Cyrus Saygbe Sr. reaffirmed the administration\u2019s commitment to transparency, professionalism, and technical excellence. He disclosed that NaFAA has initiated renewed engagements with key development partners\u2014including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the European Union (EU), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Swedish and Chinese Embassies, as part of a strategic move to rebuild partnerships and mobilize resources for sectoral growth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">DG Saygbe, who brings a strong background in development cooperation, acknowledged the serious trust deficit inherited from the previous administration, which had discouraged international support and weakened domestic confidence in the institution. However, early signs of renewed confidence are emerging. He cited a recent engagement with the Chinese Ambassador, during which five scholarships\u2014three short-term and two long-term\u2014were offered to the Government of Liberia through NaFAA, signaling a fresh start in bilateral fisheries cooperation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">DG Saygbe also announced that Liberia\u2019s first semi-industrial fiberglass fishing vessel, procured through World Bank support, is expected to arrive at the Freeport of Monrovia within 35 days to kick-start a public-private partnership aimed at modernizing artisanal fisheries. Additionally, NaFAA has proposed the creation of a new Environment and Climate Change Department, which is currently under review by the institution\u2019s Board. Through these strategic reforms and renewed partnerships, NaFAA is positioning Liberia\u2019s fisheries sector for long-term growth, resilience, and international credibility.<\/p>\n<p>Source :
