{"id":18158,"date":"2025-06-04T08:36:22","date_gmt":"2025-06-04T07:36:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/?p=18158"},"modified":"2025-06-04T08:37:41","modified_gmt":"2025-06-04T07:37:41","slug":"sukhna-port-a-turning-point-in-egyptian-economy-increasing-its-berths-to-18km-in-4-years-and-seeking-to-enter-guinness-encyclopedia-transport-ministry-contracting-with-international-compan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/sukhna-port-a-turning-point-in-egyptian-economy-increasing-its-berths-to-18km-in-4-years-and-seeking-to-enter-guinness-encyclopedia-transport-ministry-contracting-with-international-compan\/","title":{"rendered":"Sukhna port a turning point in Egyptian economy\u2026 increasing its berths to 18km in 4 years and seeking to enter Guinness encyclopedia.. transport ministry: contracting with international companies to attract trade vessels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/\u0627\u0644\u062d\u0627\u0648\u064a\u0627\u062a-600x338-1.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18159\" src=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/\u0627\u0644\u062d\u0627\u0648\u064a\u0627\u062a-600x338-1.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/\u0627\u0644\u062d\u0627\u0648\u064a\u0627\u062a-600x338-1.webp 600w, https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/\u0627\u0644\u062d\u0627\u0648\u064a\u0627\u062a-600x338-1-300x169.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Egyptian ports have witnessed a great development that included establishment of new berths and terminals, deepening vessels\u2019 draught and linking ports with railway network and high- speed train that is under construction, this in addition to making new contracts with international navigational lines for management of some ports\u2019 terminals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The ongoing developmental works in the port has converted it from a small port of 4km berths to a port of 18km berths and with 5 new docks that raised the standard of the port, and ongoing now is the establishment of the superstructure that includes the administrative buildings, cranes and accomplishment of dredging works that have reached 90%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ongoing is the implementation of Hutchson terminal at Sukhna port<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The terminal is the first terminal in the port\u2019s development project and infra-structure works have been accomplished with 100% ,also its super structure works have already started and that include the terminal yard, administration buildings and fences.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The port\u2019s area reaches 25km2 and ongoing is the completion of new 5 docks and establishment of berths of lengths 18km, depth18m so that total berths\u2019 lengths at the port is 23km, also establishment of handling yards of surface area8.6 km2 so that total yards become 10.6km2 and logistic areas of an area 6.3km2<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Admiral\/ Mohamed Khalil, Sukhna port project manager, has assured that the port is seeking to enter Guinness encyclopedia; achieving a record in berths\u2019 works and dredging docks in 4 years only, pointing out that the port witnesses giant developmental works that resulted in the establishment of 18km berths.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He also added that Egypt contracting with international companies to manage ports is to attract international navigational lines to use Egyptian ports, pointing that Sukhna port witnesses giant developmental works. And also pointed that new areas have been added to the port of 4km inside water using what results from dredging; and that it is a great giant work making usage of suitable sand in paving and establishment of roads in the port. He also assured that the docks that are implemented at the port aim at serving all port\u2019s activities and allows for anchorage of all vessels\u2019 type, showing that the port includes all kinds of activities and pointing out that Hutchson terminal will start to work by the end of current year and will receive vessels, and that the terminal giant cranes will arrive next July.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">From his side, Eng. Mohamed Fathi, transport minister assistant for maritime transport assured that Egypt has 14 companies of the greatest companies in the world that implement ports and that in the year 2015 we had not any Egyptian companies and we used to depend on foreign companies, but now Egyptian companies are implementing ports abroad and making international contracts. He also pointed out that the ports open the door for manufacturing, exporting and attracting foreign investments, showing that only one vessel pays nearly 150 thousand dollars to enter on berth and for a meter in the port 10dollars, in addition to revenues for entrance of cargo and transit cargo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Moreover, Sukhna port has witnessed establishment of railway lines ( electric train\/ diesel) of length 30km and the establishment of an inner road network of length 17km concrete paved 3 lanes\/direction, to link between berths and the port as a whole, hence participating in the nonexistence of future congestion \u00a0inside the port, in addition to establishing breakwaters of length 3270m.<\/p>\n<p>Source : Egyptian Maritime Transport &amp; Logistics
