They are a statement of intent. They reflect our department\u2019s commitment to restore dignity, pride and functionality to communities who rely on our working harbours,&#8221; the Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Dr Dion George, said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Gty8mLDXIAAEv6D.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18312\" src=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Gty8mLDXIAAEv6D.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1366\" srcset=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Gty8mLDXIAAEv6D.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Gty8mLDXIAAEv6D-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Gty8mLDXIAAEv6D-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Gty8mLDXIAAEv6D-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Gty8mLDXIAAEv6D-1536x1025.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nine of the Western Cape\u2019s 12 proclaimed fishing harbours now sport newly installed, high-quality signage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The upgrades reflect government\u2019s visible commitment to revitalising coastal communities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The following harbours now have new signage in place:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Kalk Bay \u2013 Completed on 18 June 2025.<\/li>\n<li>Hout Bay \u2013 Completed on 18 June 2025.<\/li>\n<li>Elands Bay \u2013 Completed on 16 June 2025.<\/li>\n<li>Doring Bay \u2013 Completed on 16 June 2025.<\/li>\n<li>Saldanha Bay (Pepperbay) \u2013 Completed on 16 June 2025.<\/li>\n<li>Lamberts Bay \u2013 Completed on 14 June 2025.<\/li>\n<li>St Helena Bay (Sandy Point) \u2013 Completed on 12 June 2025.<\/li>\n<li>Laaiplek \u2013 Completed on 12 June 2025.<\/li>\n<li>Yzerfontein \u2013 Initial signage installed on 25 April 2025, with further enhancements planned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For the remaining harbours &#8212; Arniston, Stilbay, Struisbay, Hermanus, Gansbaai and Gordons Bay &#8212; site visits have been completed, and signage is prepared for transportation and installation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Final installation dates will be announced soon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The department said close collaboration with local teams is key to ensuring that all remaining harbours soon reflect the same level of visible progress.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The signage project underscores the department\u2019s broader commitment to rejuvenating fishing communities, promoting sustainable development, and restoring the Western Cape\u2019s harbours as vibrant centres of economic and cultural activity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;We are determined to uplift and improve our harbours to unlock their economic potential.
