{"id":18849,"date":"2025-09-15T03:08:23","date_gmt":"2025-09-15T02:08:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/?p=18849"},"modified":"2025-10-11T03:08:46","modified_gmt":"2025-10-11T02:08:46","slug":"tnpa-newark-road-upgrades-almost-complete","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/tnpa-newark-road-upgrades-almost-complete\/","title":{"rendered":"TNPA Newark Road upgrades almost complete"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/G04ncLDWIAARUtW.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18850\" src=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/G04ncLDWIAARUtW.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/G04ncLDWIAARUtW.png 700w, https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/G04ncLDWIAARUtW-300x193.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has reported major progress in the upgrade of Newark Road, one of the Port of Richards Bay\u2019s most critical access routes, with 75% of works completed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Valued at approximately R20 million and scheduled for completion in December 2025, this capital project forms part of TNPA\u2019s ongoing drive to modernise port infrastructure to enhance the safety and efficiency of cargo movement for port users.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since project commencement in May 2025, approximately one kilometer of Newark Road has been successfully upgraded.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The road has been temporarily closed to maintain safe port operations supported by the ports authority\u2019s implementation of a comprehensive traffic management plan for alternative access routes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The road carries an estimated 67 289 light motor vehicles and 35 000 heavy vehicles per month, highlighting its importance to efficient cargo flow and port logistics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis strategic investment will ensure that the Port of Richards Bay continues to operate as a world-class logistics hub.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe will continue to engage with port users on these project developments to ensure smooth transition both now and when the road upgrades are completed this festive season,\u201d said Port Manager, Captain Dennis Mqadi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the repairs, the Bayvue port entrance remains closed with light motor vehicles diverted to enter the port through Urania Road near the Pioneer Centre and exit through the San Thom Road Gate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Heavy vehicles can access the port through West Gate on Urania Road, proceed to port terminals via Clinker Road and exit through East Gate on Newark Road.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) is responsible for the safe, effective, and efficient economic functioning of the national port system, which it manages in a landlord capacity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It provides port infrastructure and marine services at the eight commercial seaports in South Africa \u2013 Richards Bay, Durban, Saldanha, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, East London, Mossel Bay, and Ngqura.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It operates within a legislative and regulatory environment and is governed by the National Ports Act (Act No. 12 of 2005). \u2013\u00a0<strong>SAnews.gov.za<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has reported major progress in<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":18850,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_eb_attr":"","_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[40,442,1921,1767],"tags":[1493,2687,31,32,1485,1297,1388,75,45,897],"class_list":["post-18849","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-blog","category-news","category-ports-harbours","category-south-africa","tag-africa-en","tag-daily-news","tag-maritimafrica","tag-maritime","tag-maritime-in-africa","tag-maritime-industry-en","tag-news","tag-ports","tag-shipping-en","tag-south-africa"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
