{"id":18925,"date":"2025-10-16T14:24:20","date_gmt":"2025-10-16T13:24:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/?p=18925"},"modified":"2025-10-16T14:24:53","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T13:24:53","slug":"tnpa-issues-rfp-for-port-of-cape-town","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/tnpa-issues-rfp-for-port-of-cape-town\/","title":{"rendered":"TNPA issues RFP for Port of Cape Town"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/telechargement.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18926 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/telechargement.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"177\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the appointment of a suitable terminal operator to construct and manage a Break Bulk Terminal specialising in cold storage of fish and related products at the Port of Cape Town.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The earmarked port terminal site is a brownfield development, measuring approximately 7,273 m\u00b2, which is located adjacent to the ship repair and liquid bulk precincts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The site is regarded as integral to fishing operations at the port, enabling direct transfer of frozen fish products from vessels into cold storage facilities ensuring efficient export logistics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a statement on Wednesday, TNPA said the terminal will play a vital role in enhancing the Western Cape\u2019s thriving fishing industry, contributing to economic growth and an efficient logistics value chain.<br \/>\nThe RFP process is envisioned to result in the appointment of a terminal operator to finance, refurbish, construct, operate, maintain and ultimately transfer the Break Bulk Terminal for a 10-year concession period.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This development aligns with TNPA\u2019s Port Development Framework Plans (PDFPs), which outline the ports authority\u2019s plan to relocate break bulk activities to the Cape Town port\u2019s Multi-Purpose Precinct over the medium to long term (2032 \u2013 2052).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Underpinned by the National Ports Act of 2005, PDFPs ensure that infrastructure investments remain relevant and in line with international best practices.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This RFP responds to the growing demand for modern, efficient seafood cold storage and logistics facilities in Cape Town.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cBy leveraging private sector participation and investment, this project closely aligns with the Transnet Reinvent for Growth strategy, which focuses on optimising port operations, transform infrastructure and enable sustainable growth,\u201d said Rajesh Dana, Cape Town Port Manager.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A non-compulsory briefing session is scheduled for 21 October 2025.
