The 4<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Project Steering Committee has brought together Member States and partners to assess the implementation progresses, share knowledge, and reinforce collective action toward a sustainable Blue Economy across the region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The meeting marked a pivotal moment as the Project approaches the end of its implementation period. Since inception in October 2021, the project has significantly contributed to transforming the IGAD Blue Economy Strategy into tangible outcomes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Participants engaged in comprehensive discussions on regional and national achievements, challenges, and emerging opportunities in advancing Blue Economy initiatives. National focal points presented updates on the implementation statuses of their respective national Blue Economy Strategies focusing on maritime governance, biodiversity conservation, fisheries development, ecosystem management, and pollution control, showcasing the growing alignment between national strategies and IGAD\u2019s regional framework.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In his opening remark, Mr. Joachim Beijmo, Head of Regional Development Cooperation for Africa, highlighted that the project has laid the foundation for sustainable Blue Economy development in the IGAD region. Dr. Eshete Dejen, Programme Manager for Sustainable Environment Protection in the IGAD Secretariat, in his opening remarks summarized the substantial progresses made over the project\u2019s lifespan \u2014 including enhanced institutional capacity development, strengthened regional and national Blue Economy coordination platforms, expansion of knowledge products, and improved evidence-based decision-making tools.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Project Steering Committee reviewed the final project implementation evaluation report and financial reports, reflecting on key milestones, lessons learned and best practices compiled. Delegates underscored the importance of sustaining the gains made, particularly in harmonising policies, strengthening transboundary cooperations, integrating Blue Economy priorities into national development plans, and mobilising further resources to scale up effective interventions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The meeting reaffirmed that the Blue Economy holds immense potential for economic growth, environmental sustainability and social resilience in the IGAD region \u2014 particularly when driven through inclusive, coordinated, and regionally aligned approaches.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">IGAD extended its appreciation to the Government of Sweden for its partnership and to all Member States for their leadership and strong engagement throughout the project.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As the region moves forward, the outcomes of this meeting provide a solid foundation for the next phase of regional action, ensuring that Blue Economy
