At IMO, this is the year of implementation; moving from plans to concrete actions and measurable progress, reflected in our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imo.org\/en\/mediacentre\/pressbriefings\/pages\/2026-2027-world-maritime-day-theme.aspx\">world maritime theme<\/a>:\u202f\u201c<strong>From Policy to Practice \u2013 Powering Maritime Excellence.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSeafarers.\u202fNearly two\u202fmillion\u202fwork\u202fat sea.\u202fRecognizing that training needs to keep up with the new\u202frealities\u202fof the industry,\u202fwe will start\u202fa major update of the\u202fSTCW Convention\u202f\u2013 including emerging technologies, new fuels and changing requirements.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cOn decarbonization, we are\u202fmoving\u202fahead with efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions from the sector by or around 2050.
