{"id":19756,"date":"2026-01-23T18:00:04","date_gmt":"2026-01-23T17:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/?p=19756"},"modified":"2026-01-23T18:00:04","modified_gmt":"2026-01-23T17:00:04","slug":"kenya-and-rwanda-strengthen-their-cooperation-with-the-operationalization-of-the-kenya-ports-authority-liaison-office-in-kigali","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/kenya-and-rwanda-strengthen-their-cooperation-with-the-operationalization-of-the-kenya-ports-authority-liaison-office-in-kigali\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenya and Rwanda Strengthen their Cooperation with the Operationalization of the Kenya Ports Authority Liaison Office in Kigali"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/616504616_1367630088742387_1416637889006940813_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-19757\" src=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/616504616_1367630088742387_1416637889006940813_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" srcset=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/616504616_1367630088742387_1416637889006940813_n.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/616504616_1367630088742387_1416637889006940813_n-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/616504616_1367630088742387_1416637889006940813_n-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/616504616_1367630088742387_1416637889006940813_n-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Government of Kenya and Rwanda have today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to operationalize the Kenya Ports Authority\u2019s Liaison Office in Kigali, Rwanda.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The signing ceremony was presided over by Kenya\u2019s Principal Secretary State Department for Transport, Mr. Mohamed Daghar, and Rwanda\u2019s Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure, CPA Canoth Manishiwe, in Kigali.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking during the ceremony, Mr. Mohamed Daghar described the agreement as a testament to the shared commitment to deepen regional integration, trade and enhance the two nations\u2019 strategic roles within East Africa\u2019s maritime and inland logistics corridors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe operationalization of the Kigali office reflects the two nations determination to support seamless cargo movement and promote competitive trade across the region.\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On his part, Rwanda\u2019s PS Manishimwe highlighted the critical role played by KPA in facilitating regional trade and supporting Rwandan businesses. \u201cThe signing of this MoU is a positive step towards enhancing bilateral relations between our two countries,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He lauded the Kenya Ports Authority for the Kigali liaison office, noting that it has made it easier and more cost-effective for the Rwanda customers to clear their cargo from the comfort of their homes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Kenya Ports Authority Managing Director Captain William Ruto underscored the Authority\u2019s ongoing initiatives to streamline port operations, improve capacity, and enhance service delivery.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Rwanda remains one of the Port of Mombasa\u2019s key transit markets. In the port performance report for the year 2025, the market grew by 22%, or 156,107 metric tons, in comparison to the previous year after recording 839,366 metric tons against 683,259 metric tons.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Kenya\u2019s Deputy High Commissioner Mr. Nasser Okoth, KPA Director Ms. Beatrice Nyamoita, General Manager of Corporate Services Mr. Edward Kamau, and
