Mejia Jr. and NIMASA Director-General\/CEO Dr Dayo Mobereola, establishes a framework for collaboration aimed at advancing Nigeria\u2019s maritime interests, addressing the evolving needs of the maritime sector and supporting the sustainable development of the country\u2019s maritime industry.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">President Mejia welcomed the partnership renewal, saying \u201cWMU values its long-standing partnership with NIMASA and the agency\u2019s commitment to building maritime expertise in Nigeria. Through education, training and technical cooperation, we look forward to continuing our collaboration as Nigeria continues to advance its maritime sector and role in global maritime governance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Under the four-year agreement, NIMASA will sponsor at least ten officers annually to pursue the MSc in Maritime Affairs programme in Malm\u00f6, in areas relevant to the agency\u2019s work. The agreement also provides for the annual sponsorship of at least one officer to undertake the joint WMU\u2013International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI) Master of Philosophy (MPhil) programme in International Maritime Law and Ocean Policy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The cooperation also includes opportunities for NIMASA staff to participate in WMU\u2019s distance learning programmes, enabling maritime professionals to continue their studies while remaining in their professional roles. Furthermore, WMU will develop and deliver tailored Executive Professional Development Courses (EPDCs) and other specialized training programmes for NIMASA in areas such as maritime safety and environmental management, international trade and transport, maritime insurance law and practice, and maritime security.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Beyond education and training, WMU will provide technical assistance to NIMASA to strengthen maritime expertise, including supporting the development of examiners and instructors responsible for the assessment and certification of seafarers, and enhancing Nigeria\u2019s capacity to implement international maritime instruments effectively.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">NIMASA has been a long-standing partner of WMU. Since 2018, it has sponsored 72 officers to pursue education at WMU.
