This achievement confirms Dakar\u2019s rise as a strategic hub for regional and international trade.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">A transformation driven by major investments<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since taking over the concession, DP World has invested nearly USD 340 million to modernize infrastructure and expand terminal capacity. These investments have led to remarkable growth in container traffic, increasing from 265,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) in 2008 to around 850,000 TEUs in 2025.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Operational performance has also improved significantly. Vessel waiting times, once estimated at 35 hours, have been reduced to near zero, greatly enhancing supply chain fluidity and the port\u2019s attractiveness.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">These advancements have propelled Dakar to become the top-ranked port in Sub-Saharan Africa for efficiency, according to the Container Port Performance Index by the World Bank in 2024.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">A key driver of regional trade<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Dakar container terminal now plays a central role in West Africa\u2019s trade connectivity. It facilitates trade not only for Senegal but also for several landlocked countries that rely on efficient logistics corridors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Beyond transit, the port supports key agricultural value chains. Each year, thousands of cashew farmers in Casamance and Guinea-Bissau export their harvests to Asian markets via Dakar, strengthening regional economic integration.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Human capital and innovation at the core<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The terminal currently employs around 730 people, 99% of whom are Senegalese. This skilled workforce is a cornerstone of operational performance, both in Dakar and across DP World\u2019s global network.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The company has also invested in technological innovation, including advanced equipment operated remotely from dedicated control rooms\u2014highlighting the growing sophistication of local capabilities.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">A significant economic impact<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to an independent study conducted by Oxford Economics, DP World\u2019s activities in Dakar contribute an estimated USD 1.1 billion annually to Senegal\u2019s GDP, representing approximately 3.8% of the national economy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In terms of employment, the port ecosystem supports around 170,000 jobs nationwide, accounting for roughly 3.1% of total employment.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ndayane: the next strategic phase<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despite its strong performance, the Port of Dakar faces physical and urban constraints that limit further expansion. To address these challenges, DP World is developing the Port of Ndayane, located approximately 50 km from the capital.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This project, carried out in partnership with British International Investment, aims to provide additional port capacity and improve inland logistics efficiency. Construction is progressing on schedule, paving the way for a new era in Senegal\u2019s maritime sector.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">A benchmark for Africa<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Reaching the milestone of 10 million containers highlights the successful transformation of Dakar into a modern, competitive, and well-connected logistics platform. Through sustained investment, a strong focus on efficiency, and deep local integration, DP World is positioning Dakar as a leading benchmark in Sub-Saharan Africa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For Senegal and the wider region, this momentum underscores the critical role of port infrastructure in driving economic growth, regional integration, and global
