In a strategic move that strengthens Egypt\u2019s position on the global trade map, Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, Minister of Transport, announced the arrival of three giant quay cranes and six yard cranes at the multi-purpose terminal (Safaga 2) at Safaga Port. This milestone comes as part of completing the terminal\u2019s superstructure works within the broader Safaga Grand Port development plan, and in implementation of the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to transform Egypt into a regional hub for transport, logistics, and transit trade.<\/p>\n

Global technology to enhance efficiency<\/strong>
The arriving cranes, classified as Super Post-Panamax and manufactured by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC), represent a qualitative leap in the terminal\u2019s capabilities. The three quay cranes (STS type) are designed to handle large-capacity vessels and accelerate container handling cycles. Meanwhile, the six yard cranes (RTG type) operate automatically using smart systems, reducing human error and improving operational efficiency. This positions the terminal as a key gateway for the development of Upper Egypt.<\/p>\n

The importance of Safaga 2 extends beyond maritime operations. It serves as a fundamental pillar for supporting mining activities within the Golden Triangle project and acts as a vital link connecting development projects in northern, central, and southern Upper Egypt to the port. The terminal also plays a central role in the integrated logistics corridor (Safaga \u2013 Qena \u2013 Abu Tartur), one of seven international corridors implemented by the state to enhance freight transport via railways and attract investments in logistics services and value-added industries.<\/p>\n
