The company, which holds the exclusive rights to container handling at the port of Pointe-Noire, has ordered five ship-to-shore (STS) cranes, 15 electric yard cranes (e-RTGs), 30 electric harbour tractors and several front-loading forklifts for the terminal\u2019s future operations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This project forms part of Congo Terminal\u2019s strategy to modernise its port infrastructure and improve its environmental performance. Its aim is to support the growth in container traffic at the Port Autonome de Pointe-Noire whilst promoting the use of electrically powered handling equipment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe first units will be delivered in November 2026. This milestone will mark the start of the roll-out of this new fleet of equipment and the introduction of the first 100 per cent electric handling equipment as part of a port project in the Republic of Congo,\u201d explains Pierre-Louis SAPIN, Project Director for M\u00f4le Est.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">M\u00f4le Est represents a major step forward for the Congo and the sub-region. Once operational, the terminal will become the Republic of Congo\u2019s first port facility to be operated exclusively with electric cargo-handling equipment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This technological choice is aimed, in particular, at reducing direct emissions associated with cargo-handling operations compared with equivalent combustion-engine equipment. It reflects the changing expectations of shipowners and shippers committed to reducing their carbon footprint. It enhances Pointe-Noire\u2019s appeal by offering more reliable, more efficient and more environmentally friendly cargo handling. It also positions the Congo as a pioneer in the port energy transition in Central Africa. This technological lead helps to strengthen regional competitiveness and secure the supply chains of landlocked countries that depend on the port for their international trade. The project is also expected to generate direct and indirect jobs in operations, maintenance and logistics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">About Congo Terminal:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Congo Terminal, a subsidiary of AGL (Africa Global Logistics), is the exclusive operator of cargo handling activities for container ships and roll-on\/roll-off vessels calling at the port of Pointe Noire. The company is involved in a public-private partnership that enables it to meet the requirements of its clients, including shipowners, importers and exporters. Through its numerous investments, Congo Terminal is helping to improve purchasing power and is actively contributing to the fight against the high cost of living. Certified to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISPS (security), Pedestrian Free Yard (HSE) and Green Terminal, the company utilises state-of-the-art equipment and technology, including the Navis 4 operating system. Congo Terminal has exceeded the threshold of 1,000,000 TEUs handled per year since 2022 and employs nearly 900 Congolese staff.
