{"id":21925,"date":"2026-08-18T09:51:40","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T08:51:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/?p=21925"},"modified":"2026-08-18T09:51:40","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T08:51:40","slug":"ghana-achieves-fiti-implementing-country-status","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/ghana-achieves-fiti-implementing-country-status\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghana achieves FiTI Implementing Country status"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Ghana_Implementing-1536x1187-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-21926\" src=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Ghana_Implementing-1536x1187-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1536\" height=\"1187\" srcset=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Ghana_Implementing-1536x1187-1.png 1536w, https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Ghana_Implementing-1536x1187-1-300x232.png 300w, https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Ghana_Implementing-1536x1187-1-1024x791.png 1024w, https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Ghana_Implementing-1536x1187-1-768x594.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1536px) 100vw, 1536px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The FiTI International Board recognised Ghana\u2019s initial efforts in implementing the FiTI Standard by awarding it the official status of a\u00a0<strong><mark class=\"has-inline-color\"><span class=\"stk-highlight\">FiTI Implemeting Country<\/span><\/mark><\/strong>, demonstrating the significant steps that the country\u2019s national authorities have taken to establish an enabling environment for fisheries transparency and stakeholder collaboration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The International Board expressed its satisfaction, in particular, with the content of the application, which not only demonstrated compliance with all the steps required by the\u00a0<a title=\"FiTI Standard\" href=\"https:\/\/fiti.global\/fiti-standard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"stk-highlight\">FiTI Standard<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(Section C), but also showed that the entire process was conducted within the agreed timelines and in a professional, participatory, and inclusive manner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Furthermore, the Board noted the initial progress made in publishing fisheries data online through a new\u00a0<a title=\"Fisheries Information System (FIS)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mofaq.gov.gh\/data-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"stk-highlight\">Fisheries Information System (FIS)<\/span><\/a>, embedded into MoFA\u2019s website, which comes three years after the FiTI conducted its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fiti.global\/taking-stock\"><span class=\"stk-highlight\">TAKING STOCK transparency assessment<\/span><\/a>\u00a0on Ghana. At the time, the assessment found that while certain information was published by Ghana\u2019s national authorities, the majority of what is required for open and inclusive fisheries management remained inaccessible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The completion of this important milestone lays the foundations for Ghana to start benefiting from a transparent and inclusive fishing sector by demonstrating adherence to the FiTI Standard\u2019s transparency requirements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The next key step in the FiTI process is the publication of the country\u2019s first\u00a0<a title=\"FiTI Report\" href=\"https:\/\/fiti.global\/fiti-reports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"stk-highlight\">FiTI Report<\/span><\/a>, in accordance with section D.1 of the FiTI Standard. For this, Ghana\u2019s National Multi-Stakeholder Group \u2013 in collaboration with the FiTI International Secretariat \u2013 must publish the report within one year of becoming a FiTI Implementing Country, i.e. by August 2027 (containing information relating to the 2026 calendar year). Afterwards, subsequent FiTI Reports must be published on an annual basis, until Ghana reaches the status of Compliance Eligibility (in accordance with section H.1 of the FiTI Standard).<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The International Board extends its congratulations to the leadership team of the\u00a0<a title=\"Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MoFA)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mofaq.gov.gh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"stk-highlight\">Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MoFA)<\/span><\/a>, Ghana\u2019s National Focal Point \u2013 Mr. Danny Mohammed \u2013 as well as the members of Ghana\u2019s National Multi-Stakeholder Group (MSG), and all those who have been involved in this process.
