Sarat Braimah (Lagos Area Manager) said the rational behind this is ensuring that the nation\u2019s Inland Waterways remained clean, safe and viable for navigation by removing harmful materials from the waterways.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She reiterated NIWA&#8217;s commitment to protecting the sanctity of the nation&#8217;s waterways by ensuring the safety and navigability of the waters for transportation, fishing and other legitimate economic activities\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Maintaining clean waterways is not only an environmental responsibility but also a critical component of navigation safety, as floating debris and other waste materials can obstruct waterways, damage boats and contribute to accidents&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Also, the Managing Director of Parts Central Nigeria Limited, Mr. Henry Olaoluwa Onifade, said that boats and other watercraft operating on Nigeria\u2019s Inland Waterways would be provided with an approved waste bin, while mother bins would be installed at jetties to enable operators to offload collected waste when docking.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Those present for the engagement were; Mr. Dayo Bush-Alebiosu, the commissioner for waterwfront of Lagos state, some other representatives of the Lagos State government, stakeholders, and security agencies among others.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Amongst the stakeholders were Deputy commissioner of police UM Ogechi who represented the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Maritime Police, President of the National Association of Travel Operators( NATOP) Mrs Bolaji Mustapha, The Odifinvif Onisiwo High chief Lateef Rufai, Head of Corporate Communications and Strategy for sustainable Waterways Awareness, Advancement and Development (SWAADO) Chief Raymond Gold.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The stakeholders agreed that the success of the program would depend on sustained cooperation among government agencies, the Lagos state government, security agencies, waterfront communities, boat operators, Tourism Operators and other waterways users.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With a renewable 10- year framework now in place, the NIWA &#8211;
