The Secretary General of the Maritime Organisation for Eastern, Southern and Northern Africa (MOESNA) Mr. Kassim Kaziba Mpaata paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Chinguane Sebasti\u00e3o Marcos Mabote, Secretary of State (Transport) of the Republic of Mozambique, at his office in Maputo.<\/p>\n

The Secretary General, who was accompanied by Mr. Aderick Kagenzi Director Ports, Shipping and Maritime Services thanked the Government of Mozambique for its continued confidence in MOESNA\u2019s vision and mandate, as well as its contributions to regional maritime programmes and initiatives. He noted that Mozambique was strategically positioned to play a key role in regional maritime cabotage and coastal shipping initiatives, given its location along major maritime corridors connecting Eastern and Southern Africa and linking the Region to the Far East.<\/p>\n

On his part, His Excellency Mr. Mabote commended MOESNA for its work in promoting the maritime interests of the Region, noting that its vision and initiatives were aligned with Mozambique\u2019s development aspirations. He emphasized the importance of initiatives aimed at promoting maritime trade, strengthening regional shipping services and enhancing the Region\u2019s capacity to participate effectively in maritime commerce.<\/p>\n

The meeting discussed several matters of mutual interest, including regional maritime cabotage and coastal shipping, maritime education and training as well as institutional capacity development. The discussions underscored the importance of continued cooperation between MOESNA and Mozambique in advancing regional maritime connectivity, trade facilitation and sustainable maritime development.<\/p>\n

The meeting was attended by Mr. Unaite Mustapha, Chief Executive Officer of INTRASMAR, Mr. Kwame Namitete, National Director, International Cooperation Directorate, together with other senior Government officials.<\/p>\n
