The Chief of the Naval Staff of the Indian Navy, Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, called on the Commissioner of Police, Mr Rampersad Sooroojebally, today at the Police Headquarters, Line Barracks in Port Louis, as part of efforts to further strengthen maritime cooperation between Mauritius and India.<\/p>\n

Admiral Swaminathan is on an official visit to Mauritius from 10 to 13 August 2026, and is accompanied by his spouse, Mrs Laila Swaminathan, as well as Captain Syam K. Kiran and Commander V. S. Chokker.<\/p>\n

The visit, which marks Admiral Swaminathan\u2019s first overseas engagement since assuming command of the Indian Navy on 31 May 2026, reflects the close and longstanding relationship between Mauritius and India, particularly in the maritime domain.<\/p>\n

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss ways of enhancing cooperation between the Indian Navy and Mauritius, particularly in areas such as training, capacity building, hydrographic cooperation, technical assistance and maritime security.<\/p>\n

During his visit, the Chief of the Naval Staff is scheduled to meet the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, senior government officials, and members of the Mauritius Police Force, National Coast Guard and Special Mobile Force.<\/p>\n

As part of India\u2019s continued support to Mauritius, Admiral Swaminathan will hand over a Side Scan Sonar system and updated navigational charts to the Government of Mauritius. The contributions will help strengthen Mauritius\u2019 hydrographic capabilities and enhance maritime safety and navigational preparedness.<\/p>\n

Maritime cooperation between Mauritius and India forms an important pillar of the bilateral partnership and contributes to their shared commitment to a safe, secure and stable Indian Ocean Region. The cooperation is also aligned with India\u2019s SAGAR vision \u2018Security and Growth for All in the Region\u2019 and the broader MAHASAGAR initiative, \u2018Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions\u2019.<\/p>\n
