Both meetings are taking place until 25 September 2026 at the <strong>Omar Bongo Ondimba Congress Palace<\/strong>, under the theme: <strong>\u201cPolicy to Practice: Powering a Resilient and Future-Ready Port State Control Regime.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Held under the auspices of the <strong>Ministry of Transport, Merchant Marine and Logistics<\/strong>, the event is organized by the <strong>Directorate General of Merchant Marine of Gabon<\/strong>. It brings together representatives of the <strong>22 member States of the Abuja Memorandum of Understanding<\/strong>, as well as maritime authorities, experts and partners from the maritime sector.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Over the five-day meeting, participants will take part in <strong>technical sessions and high-level discussions<\/strong> focusing on <strong>strengthening port State control<\/strong>, the <strong>harmonization of practices across the region<\/strong>, as well as <strong>current and future maritime safety challenges<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">The Abuja MoU, a regional framework for cooperation<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control in West and Central Africa<\/strong>, commonly known as the <strong>\u201cAbuja Memorandum,\u201d <\/strong>or <strong>\u201cAbuja MoU,\u201d<\/strong> provides a framework for cooperation among the region\u2019s maritime administrations on port State control.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Signed in Abuja, Nigeria, on 22 October 1999<\/strong>, under the auspices of the <strong>International Maritime Organization (IMO)<\/strong>, its objectives include contributing to the <strong>harmonization of inspection procedures and port State control practices<\/strong> among member States and combating the operation of ships that do not comply with applicable international standards.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Abuja MoU<\/strong> also aims to contribute to strengthening <strong>maritime safety and security<\/strong>, <strong>protecting the marine environment<\/strong>, and improving the <strong>working and living conditions of seafarers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Gabonese capital is hosting, from
