This new port infrastructure, scheduled to come into operation in the first half of 2027, will increase the Port of Pointe-Noire\u2019s capacity to receive and handle containers, using 100 per cent electric handling equipment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With a draught of -17 metres, the East Quay will be able to accommodate large-capacity container ships, up to 400 metres in length and with a capacity of 24,000 TEU. These specifications reflect the increasing size of vessels operating on major international shipping routes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The future terminal will be operated using electric cargo-handling equipment, including ship-to-shore (STS) cranes, electric reach stackers (e-RTGs) and electric harbour tractors. This\u00a0configuration aims to reduce direct emissions associated with cargo-handling operations compared with the use of equivalent equipment powered by internal combustion engines.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The site will cover 27 hectares and will incorporate several systems designed to manage resources and effluent. The administrative building will include a solar hot water system as well as equipment enabling the reuse of certain types of water. Water collected on site will be treated before discharge in accordance with the provisions set out in the terminal\u2019s operating procedures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">From the design stage, the project has incorporated objectives to minimise energy and water consumption. The administrative building has been designed to meet the criteria for EDGE Advanced certification, for which an assessment is currently underway.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">M\u00f4le Est forms part of Congo Terminal\u2019s investment programme aimed at adapting Pointe-Noire\u2019s port infrastructure to developments in maritime transport and the growth in\u00a0containerised freight flows. Its commissioning is expected to increase the terminal\u2019s operational capacity and support the logistical needs of the customers served by the port.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>About Congo Terminal:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Congo Terminal, a subsidiary of AGL (Africa Global Logistics), is the exclusive operator of cargo handling activities for container ships and roll-on\/roll-off vessels calling at the port of Pointe Noire. The company is involved in a public-private partnership that enables it to meet the requirements of its clients, including shipowners, importers and exporters. Through its numerous investments, Congo Terminal is helping to improve purchasing power and is actively contributing to the fight against the high cost of living. Certified to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISPS (security), Pedestrian Free Yard (HSE) and Green Terminal, the company has state-of-the-art equipment and technology, including the Navis 4 operating system. Congo Terminal has exceeded the threshold of 1,000,000 TEUs handled per year since 2022 and employs nearly 900 Congolese staff.
