The proposed facility will provide a dedicated marketplace for fish and fisheries-related products sourced from artisanal fisherfolk, as well as aquaculture and inland fisheries producers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The grant will support NaFAA\u2019s broader efforts to reduce post-harvest losses, improve food safety and hygiene, enhance the livelihoods of small-scale fisheries operators, and ensure that consumers have better access to quality fish and other fisheries products.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The planned Fish Sales Hub will be designed as a modern, hygienic, and energy-efficient facility that responds to the practical needs of fishers, fishmongers, aquaculture producers, traders, and consumers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Key features of the proposed facility will include:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong>20-tonne-capacity cooling room<\/strong>: To improve fish preservation, maintain product quality, and extend the period during which fish can be safely marketed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hygienic waste management system<\/strong>: To promote sanitary handling and disposal of fish waste and maintain a cleaner market environment.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Specially equipped cooling motorbike delivery fleet<\/strong>: To facilitate the hygienic and temperature-controlled transportation of fish and fisheries products to customers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fishmonger training<\/strong>: To strengthen the capacity of fishmongers through training on standardized units of measurement and related practices to be adopted at the Fish Sales Hub.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mini seafood grill outlet<\/strong>: To provide an additional avenue for the preparation and sale of seafood products, creating opportunities for small businesses and value addition.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Smart-energy systems<\/strong>: To promote energy efficiency and support the reliable operation of the facility.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Through these investments, NaFAA anticipates that the Fish Sales Hub will help improve the handling and marketing of locally harvested fish, reduce avoidable losses, strengthen market linkages, and create opportunities for increased income across the fisheries value chain.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Fish Sales Hub is expected to operate under a Public\u2013Private Partnership (PPP) model, designed to encourage private-sector participation, attract investment, promote innovation, and strengthen the commercial sustainability of the facility.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Under this approach, NaFAA seeks to establish a framework that combines public-sector oversight and development objectives with private-sector expertise, operational efficiency, and capital. The model is intended to support a sustainable market platform that benefits small-scale fisheries operators while expanding opportunities for businesses involved in fish handling, transportation, processing, distribution, and retail.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The initiative also aligns with NaFAA\u2019s broader commitment to mobilizing private capital and developing commercially viable infrastructure that supports employment, enterprise development, and sustainable fisheries management.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In addition to supporting the Fish Sales Hub, a portion of the grant will be used to support the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture Sciences (DoFAS) at the University of Liberia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The support will facilitate the development of a Small-Scale Fisheries Guideline and an IHH-based curriculum, training modules, and syllabi, as specified under the programme. This component is intended to strengthen fisheries education and contribute to the development of practical guidance and learning materials relevant to small-scale fisheries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By connecting market infrastructure with academic and technical capacity development, the initiative will support a more integrated approach to strengthening Liberia\u2019s fisheries sector, building knowledge, and improving practices along the fisheries value chain.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">NaFAA welcomes its partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and recognizes the importance of this support in addressing the persistent post-harvest losses faced by small-scale fisheries operators.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Authority views the grant as an opportunity to establish a more organized and accessible marketplace where artisanal fisherfolk, aquaculture farmers, and inland fisheries producers can bring their products to market under improved handling and preservation conditions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The proposed Fish Sales Hub will also provide consumers with a more reliable avenue to access fisheries products harvested from Liberia\u2019s marine and inland waters, while promoting greater recognition and market value for locally produced fish.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">NaFAA remains committed to working with FAO, the University of Liberia, private-sector partners, and other stakeholders to advance the initiative\u2019s
