font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cCongratulations on the completion of a successful exercise,\u201d said <strong>U.S. Ambassador to Ghana,<\/strong> <strong>Ms. Stephanie Sullivan<\/strong>. \u201cYour efforts will have a lasting positive effect in improving regional cooperation and information sharing among participating nations.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">The exercise focused on\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">the collective<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0capabilities for countering the trafficking of illegal arms and drugs, human trafficking, illegal migration, piracy, and illegal fishing.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">There\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">was<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0partner nation collaboration efforts<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0in support of the Yaound\u00e9 Code of Conduct, adherence to the rule of law<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">,<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">in\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">strengthening safety and security in the Gulf of Guinea and coastal areas in the West.\u202f<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cAmid the challenges imposed by the global coronavirus pandemic, states along the Gulf of Guinea<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">,<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0together with their international partners<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">,<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0are still poised and willing to come together to fight the menace of maritime crime and incidents,\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">said<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0guest of honor<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">,\u00a0<\/span><strong><span style=\"font-style: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">Adm. Seth\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">Amoama<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">, Chief of the Defen<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">s<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">e Staff, Ghana Armed Forces<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">This stems from the fact that\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">i<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">n recent times<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">,<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0there has been an increase in the number of vessels operating within the Gulf of Guinea region, bringing with it a commensurate increase in maritime incidents.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">Last year\u2019s exercise was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, to accommodate the unique challenges of the pandemic, some events were held virtually. The first-ever OE21<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0Virtual Pandemic Preparation and Response Engagement\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">offered an opportunity for top medical experts from African nations, the United States and the United Kingdom, to share lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic.\u202f<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cI wish to end by once again expressing my gratitude to the United States Africa Command for their continuous assistance and varied contributions to improving maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea,\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">Amoama<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0said.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cMy sincere appreciation also goes to the governments of all the participating countries for committing time and resources to make this exercise a great success.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">Activities took place across five exercise zones in the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Guinea that stretch from Senegal to Angola, and across the Economic Community of West African States and Economic Community of Central African States nations.\u202f<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559737&quot;:-20}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cLet me close by simply saying how proud I am, and how proud the U.S. Navy is, to call itself a partner to the navies and coast guards of Atlantic Africa and to our broader Atlantic partners in Europe and the Americas,\u201d said <strong>Rear Adm. Jeffrey S. Spivey, director, maritime partnership program, U.S. Naval Forces Europe and Africa<\/strong>. \u201cMay we continue to further the region\u2019s capacity to secure and protect its maritime domain through cooperation and togetherness.\u201d\u202f\u202f\u202f<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">The 32 nations who participated in\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">O<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">bangame<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0Express<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0included Angola, Belgium, Benin, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Cote d\u2019Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Denmark, Equatorial Guinea, France, Gabon, Gambia, Germany, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Italy, Liberia, Morocco, Namibia, The Netherlands, Nigeria,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">Poland,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" data-contrast=\"none\">Portugal, Republic of Congo, Sao Tome &amp; Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Spain, Togo, and the United States.
