U.S. forces work alongside Seychellois participants to increase their abilities to work cooperatively in dealing with challenges like piracy, drug trafficking, illegal fishing, and other illicit activities. The training will last for 11 days, until August 6.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/cutlass-02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7241 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/cutlass-02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/cutlass-02.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/cutlass-02-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/cutlass-02-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The exercise begins with an in-port training period followed by at-sea scenarios and concludes with a senior leadership symposium. The underway portion of the exercise tests ship crews\u2019 abilities to detect illicit activity, conduct maritime interdiction operations by boarding teams against simulated suspect vessels, and practice follow-on evidence collection procedures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The valuable operational experience gained during Cutlass Express contributes to Seychelles\u2019 ability to suppress and counter illegal activities, including piracy, arms trafficking, human smuggling, drug trafficking, and illegal trade in wildlife.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAlong its almost 17,000 nautical mile coastline, with its crucial seaports, Africa depends on the ocean as a link to global trade and a vital source of economic development and livelihood. Thus, the core aims of strengthening partnerships, increasing maritime domain awareness, and leveraging regional security cooperation at sea are of utmost importance,\u201d Rear Admiral Jeffrey S. Spivey, Director of Maritime Partnership Program for the U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa\/Sixth Fleet, said during the launch ceremony of Cutlass Express 2021.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/cutlass-01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7242 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/cutlass-01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/cutlass-01.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/cutlass-01-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/maritimafrica.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/cutlass-01-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSince its initiation, I can confidently say, that Cutlass Express exercise has been the most successful and highly anticipated multi-lateral exercise of its kind conducted in this region and in our country. This why, we have always looked forward to it, and ensure that we participate actively and support it to the fullest, and for that we remain forever grateful to the U.S military, the U.S. Navy Sixth fleet in particular, and the various European partners and collaborators, who have always ensured that we have a well-planned and well executed exercise. The theoretical training and the practical underway exercises plan for Cutlass 2021 will without doubt improve the capabilities of the participants and enhance interoperability between participating
