Built by the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) and a Dutch firm-Damen Shipyards, the 100-metre long&nbsp;<em>MV Uhuru II<\/em>&nbsp;which is nearing completion&nbsp;has a capacity of up to 22 wagons with an estimated capacity of 2 million litres of crude oil per trip.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The vessel&nbsp;will complement&nbsp;<em>MV Uhuru I<\/em>&nbsp;which was built in 1965 to ferry fuel and other products to Uganda, Tanzania and other East African countries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The President who also commissioned the Kenya Shipyards Limited (KSL) Kisumu facility lauded KDF for executing the projects in record time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Besides constructing ships, the facility, he said, will also build fishing boats, refit and service ships from government and private institutions. This will enhance safety in lake transport, promote auxiliary business and tourism, creating job opportunities for the youth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Head of State further challenged Kenya Shipyards Limited to look beyond the Kenyan borders and tap into the regional market as the country angles to stamp its authority in ship building.
