Guinea Conakry acquires a modern 320-seat catamaran hull vessel
The people of Guinea are delighted with some excellent news. The country has just acquired a modern ship that will provide a link between Conakry and other regions of the country as well as the sub-region.
The official handover ceremony took place on Tuesday 5 September 2023 at the Autonomous Port of Conakry, in the presence of the Minister of Transport, Mr Félix LAMAH.
The ship, a catamaran hull 40 metres long and 10 metres wide, can accommodate more than 300 passengers in a single crossing.
It has two compartments, seating 24 in business class and 296 in economy class. For the comfort of passengers, it has 8 screens, air-conditioned rooms and a space reserved for the crew.
The Minister of Transport, Félix LAMAH, said: “The President of the Republic has given us a clear mission: to set up a multimodal transport system in our country to facilitate the mobility of our fellow citizens. The arrival of this ship, which I like to call the ‘Boeing on the sea’, marks the start of a new era for multimodal transport in the Republic of Guinea, thanks to the vision of the Head of State.”
It should be noted that nine Guineans are currently undergoing training in Côte d’Ivoire and will soon return to the country with captain’s diplomas, ready to provide crossings and promote local talent.
It should be noted that the Guinean Ministry of Transport is also considering the acquisition of several other vessels to serve the Loos Islands in the future.
