Exercise IBSAMAR VIII 2024 Successfully Concludes

The 8th instalment of Exercise IBSAMAR has concluded after 10 gruelling days that tested the capabilities of SAS AMATOLA, BNS DEFENSORA from Brazil, INS TALWAR from India and land based elements. The exercise under the slogan “Shared Interoperability Towards Regional Ocean Governance” aimed to enhance relationships between the countries, strengthen bonds and share knowledge. This exercise also allowed ships and crews to prepare for future operations.

The sea phase is comprised of close-quarters manoeuvres which enhance the capabilities of the junior combat officers onboard. Replenishment at Sea approaches were also conducted. The South African Air Force also provided two Hawks for Air attacks and Surface warfare serials which was very impressive to witness. Special Forces from Brazil and India tested interoperability and simulating maritime interdictions by boarding the “rogue ship” SAS AMATOLA by means of boat and fast roping by helicopter.

The highly successful exercise culminated with a Sail Past of the vessels and the 2 Hawks on Simons Town to invited dignitaries. BNS DEFENSORA and INS TALWAR will depart Simons Town on Friday 18 October to visit other ports.
