THE GAMBIA NAVY CONDUCTS TRAINING ON THE NEWLY ACQUIRED BOATS WITH THE PORTUGUESE NAVY

A team of Gambia Navy (GN) personnel are currently undergoing a three-week hands-on training on the two newly received Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIBS), which commenced on 12 Jan 26. The RHIBs are donated to the Gambia Navy by the EU through the Support to West Africa Integrated Maritime Strategy (SWAIMS) project, which was facilitated by the Ministry of Works, Transport and Infrastructure.

This is aimed at closing the enforcement gap of Gulf of Guinea coastal nations and help improve maritime safety and security in the Gambia’s maritime domain.

The training by a 3-man Portuguese Navy experts are meant to familiarize GN engineers, boat handlers and boarding officers on the features and employment of the RHIBs before formal delivery to the Navy.
