ANGOLA – THE PORT OF LOBITO AND SONAMET-SA SIGN A 25-YEAR CONCESSION AGREEMENT FOR THE OIL TERMINAL

A concession agreement granting private use of the Oil Terminal at the Port of Lobito was signed this Tuesday, February 24, 2026, in Luanda. The agreement guarantees Sonamet Industrial S.A. the management of the infrastructure for an additional 25 years, ensuring the operational continuity of an asset considered strategic for Angola’s energy sector.

The contract was signed between the Lobito Port Company and Sonamet Industrial S.A. during a ceremony held at the Intercontinental Luanda Miramar Hotel, in the presence of institutional authorities and representatives from the port and oil sectors. The signing formalizes the renewal of the terminal’s concession, located within the port area under the jurisdiction of the Port of Lobito.

The new agreement establishes the legal and operational framework of the concession under the “landlord port” model (Porto Senhorio) adopted by the Port Authority. Under this system, the Port retains regulatory, supervisory, and coordination functions, while the concessionaire assumes responsibility for the industrial and logistical operations of the site.

With a total area of 762,613 square meters and 323 meters of berth frontage, the Oil Terminal is consolidating its position as a strategic platform for operations related to the construction of metal structures and support platforms for oil activities, in accordance with maritime legislation and the general regime governing port concessions.

In line with the agreed terms, Sonamet Industrial S.A. will implement an investment plan aimed at modernizing infrastructure, strengthening technical capacities, and continuously improving safety, environmental, and quality standards. The agreement also includes provisions to promote local content and enhance national workforce development.
