Webinar – Leading Women in African Aquaculture!

The United Nations has designated 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer (IYWF 2026). The World Aquaculture Society (WAS), along with the African Union Development Agency – (AUDA-NEPAD) and other partners, aims to highlight the crucial roles that women play in aquatic food systems, particularly women fish farmers. To achieve this, a variety of programs and initiatives, will be implemented, beginning with a webinar session designed to raise awareness and promote actions that enhance women’s livelihoods in aquaculture.

Additionally, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has created a Communications Handbook and Toolkit for the IYWF 2026, which outlines several actions to amplify the celebrations of IYWF 2026. At the end of the year (1-4 December), the WAS plans to host a side-event at the upcoming Aquaculture Africa 2026 Conference to conclude the commemorations. Women aqua-farmers are encouraged to join us on this journey.

Join this exciting webinar to participate and gain insight into the activities that are planned for the year to celebrate women in aquaculture.
