Congo Terminal Strengthens Its Fleet and Accelerates Its Growth
On 22 July 2026, Congo Terminal strengthened its rolling equipment fleet with the acquisition of 22 new terminal tractors. These vehicles will optimize container transfers between the quay and the container yards while reducing vessel turnaround times. They will also improve cargo flows within the terminal, contributing to even more efficient port logistics.
This investment is part of a remarkable growth trajectory. From 200,000 TEUs handled in 2009, when Congo Terminal began operations, throughput surpassed 1.2 million TEUs last year at the Port of Pointe-Noire—a sixfold increase in less than twenty years. This achievement reflects the confidence of shipping lines in the terminal and highlights the Port of Pointe-Noire’s strategic role in regional logistics. It also demonstrates the value of the public-private partnership between AGL and the Congolese authorities in supporting the economic development of the Republic of the Congo and the wider Central African region.
Beyond its operational impact, the expansion of the fleet is creating direct employment opportunities for Congolese youth in equipment operation, maintenance, and related terminal operations. It also aligns with the momentum of the East Mole Project (Môle Est), scheduled for completion in the first half of 2027. Once completed, the project will increase the terminal’s annual handling capacity to 2.5 million TEUs, further strengthening the Port of Pointe-Noire’s position as a leading logistics hub in Central Africa.
