Bissau Port: BOAD Committed to Supporting the Development of Port Infrastructure in Guinea-Bissau

On 25 July 2026, Mr. Serge EKUE, President of the West African Development Bank (BOAD), paid a working visit to the General Directorate of the Port of Bissau. The visit took place in the presence of Mr. Florentino Mendes PEREIRA, Guinea-Bissau’s Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr. Mahamadou BONKOUNGOU, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the EBOMAF Group, as well as the Director General of the Guinea-Bissau Port Administration.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review the progress of the Port of Bissau dredging project, which is co-financed by BOAD, and to identify the measures required to ensure the continuation of the project under the best possible technical and financial conditions.

Mr. Serge EKUE and Mr. Mahamadou BONKOUNGOU were also received in audience by the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Guinea-Bissau. Discussions focused on the progress of the port dredging works and the wreck removal operations.

With a total pre-tax cost of CFA Francs 22.594 billion, including CFA Francs 15 billion financed by BOAD, the project represents a major step towards strengthening the operational capacity of the Port of Bissau, improving maritime connectivity, and supporting the growth of trade and commercial exchanges.
