Madagascar’s First STS Cranes Arrive at the Port of Toamasina

On July 13, 2026, the Port of Toamasina welcomed Madagascar’s first Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes, transported by the vessel ZHONG YU 188 to the new C4 quay. Designed for container handling operations for vessels that will call at the terminal, these cranes mark a major milestone in the commissioning of this new port infrastructure.

STS cranes, or Ship-to-Shore cranes, enable the transfer of containers between ships and the quay. They will allow the port to handle larger container vessels with greater precision and efficiency.
