Mauritius and Australia to collaborate on SAR Services
Mauritius and Australia are set to strengthen cooperation in search and rescue operations with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the coordination of Search and Rescue (SAR) Services.
The agreement will be signed by representatives of the Department of Civil Aviation, the Shipping Division and the National Coast Guard on the Mauritian side and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.
These agencies are responsible for aeronautical and maritime search and rescue activities in both countries.
Under the MoU, Mauritius and Australia will collaborate in several key areas, such as: the exchange of information on actual or potential distress situations; assistance during SAR missions; and use of facilities in SAR regions.
The exchange of information on SAR resources and capabilities as well as regular communication checks and periodic joint SAR exercises form part of the bilateral cooperation.
