TANZANIA – TASAC ASSURES ZAMBIAN TRADERS OF IMPROVED DAR ES SALAAM PORT SERVICES

The Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC) has assured Zambian importers and users of the Port of Dar es Salaam of improved efficiency, reliability, and service quality, while urging them to engage licensed, registered and compliant providers.

Speaking on behalf of the TASAC Director General at a stakeholders’ engagement forum held in Ndola on September 23, 2026, Mr. Sylvester Kanyika said Tanzania and Zambia have longstanding trade, transport and economic relations, making the Dar es Salaam–Zambia corridor a link between the countries.

He said the volume of Zambia-bound cargo through the Port of Dar es Salaam underscores the need to strengthen cooperation and ensure efficient service delivery along the corridor.

Mr. Kanyika said TASAC regulates shipping agencies and maritime services, promotes safety and security, protects the marine environment, monitors service providers, regulates tariffs and charges, and facilitates resolution of complaints and disputes.

“Significant improvements have been made to enhance efficiency, reliability and the quality of services at the Port of Dar es Salaam. We therefore encourage importers and traders in Zambia to continue using the port with confidence,” he said.

Mr. Kanyika urged customers to avoid unregistered intermediaries, known as “vishoka,” and instead engage licensed shipping and clearing agents. He cautioned that delays in obtaining Delivery Orders (DOs) could lead to storage charges and demurrage.

He also highlighted the Tanzania Shipping Agencies (Complaint Handling) Regulations, 2018, which require service providers to maintain mechanisms to receive and address customer complaints.

He reaffirmed TASAC’s commitment to working with the Government of Zambia and stakeholders to ensure that the Tanzania–Zambia trade corridor remains safe, efficient, reliable, competitive and responsive to users’ needs.
