PORT COOPERATION: GUINEA SET TO ASSUME THE PRESIDENCY OF PMAWCA

The Minister of Transport, Mr. Ousmane Gaoual DIALLO, received Mr. Jean Marie Koffi, Secretary General of the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA), on Friday, as part of preparations for the organisation’s 46th Council meeting, scheduled to take place from 15 to 19 November 2026 in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

The meeting was attended by the Minister’s Chief of Staff, the Minister’s Advisers, and the Director General of the Conakry Autonomous Port, reflecting the importance Guinea’s authorities attach to strengthening regional port cooperation.

On this occasion, Mr. Jean Marie Koffi officially invited the Minister of Transport to participate in the proceedings of the Council meeting, which is expected to mark Guinea’s accession to the presidency of PMAWCA.

Bringing together 20 coastal countries and more than 40 ports, PMAWCA provides a key platform for dialogue and cooperation aimed at developing port activities, promoting maritime trade, and strengthening regional integration.

The Minister of Transport welcomed the visit and highlighted the strategic potential of Guinea’s ports, particularly those of Dobali, Benty, Dapilon, Moribaya, Mbotini, and Cap Verga. He emphasised their potential contribution to national economic development and the expansion of trade with countries across the sub-region.

He also reaffirmed Guinea’s ambition to strengthen its regional maritime connectivity, in line with the vision championed by the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Mamadi Doumbouya.

This meeting reflects the determination of Guinea’s authorities to consolidate regional partnerships, unlock the country’s port potential, and strengthen Guinea’s position as a major player in the maritime sector in West and Central Africa.
