Egypt : President El-Sisi Meets the PM, the Minister of Transport and the Chairman of the SCZONE

Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly; Minister of Transport, Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir; Chairman for the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), Mr. Walid Sami; and Chairman of the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces, Major General Ahmad Al-Azazi.

The Spokesman for the Presidency said the meeting followed-up on work progress in investment and strategic projects in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

The meeting reviewed progress in projects underway to upgrade ports along the Economic Zone of the Suez Canal, particularly the ports of Ain Sokhna, Adabiya, East Port Said, West Port Said, Al-Tur and Al-Arish. This includes in particular breakwaters, container handling stations, berths, logistics zones and multi-purpose terminals in the ports. These projects are being implemented in partnership with international expertise and the private sector.

The President was briefed on the promotional plan for the SCZONE, in cooperation with international institutions and investment banks, to attract investments. President El-Sisi was also updated on progress in capacity-enhancing projects for the economic zone, particularly the establishment of platforms for small and medium industries and start-ups. This is, in addition to projects to supply ships with green fuel and attract investments in complementary and feeding industries for these projects.

President El-Sisi directed to localize complementary industries for the production of new and renewable energy, including green fuel, given their multiple uses in several other fields such as water plants, which are a major component in many projects nationwide.

The President stressed the importance of stepping-up investment efforts and activities of the SCZONE, by forming an effective investment entity for the zone in its affiliated projects. He also gave directives to leverage the zone’s potential, especially its outstanding geographic location in the Suez Canal, where it is located in the center of the world’s most important shipping lanes. This provides promising opportunities for the zone to become a regional and global hub for green fuel production projects, which will maximize its return and consolidate Egypt’s position in the production and circulation of energy in the region.

President El-Sisi underscored the need to develop the industrial zones under the umbrella of the SCZONE into integrated cities, in terms of various services and residential communities, as part of efforts to expand the comprehensive development in the Canal Zone.

The President also emphasized the importance of upgrading the Suez-Sokhna road, so as to improve the level of services and safety along the road by increasing the number of traffic lanes, separating heavy trucks from other vehicles, and upgrading railway slides along the road. This is in addition to contributing to achieving the development goals in the region by enhancing the connection between ports and the integration with the New Suez City as well as facilitating entry and exit between those areas.
