TRAGIC MARITIME ACCIDENT OFF JINACK VILLAGE

A tragic maritime accident occurred off the coast of the village of Jinack, in the North Bank Region, around midnight on December 31, 2025.
A boat carrying an undetermined number of irregular migrants capsized under circumstances that are still under investigation.
In response to this emergency, the National Emergency Response Plan was immediately activated. The Gambian Government mobilized significant human and material resources to intensify rescue operations and provide immediate assistance to survivors.
According to the first available information, one hundred and two (102) people have been rescued to date. Several survivors are currently receiving emergency medical care, while rescue teams continue to closely monitor their health conditions.
Unfortunately, seven (7) bodies have been recovered so far.
Search and rescue operations are continuing actively in order to locate those who are still reported missing.
