Ghana – Strengthening Collaboration Against Fisheries-Related Crime

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), through its Passenger and Cargo Control Programme (PCCP), implemented the FishNET initiative, funded by the Government of Norway, to enhance the capacity of national authorities to tackle crime in the fisheries sector.

This programme supports the sustainable management of fisheries resources in priority countries, aiming to safeguard marine ecosystems, improve food security, boost nutrition and health, and foster a fair and sustainable fisheries industry that creates economic opportunities for fishers and the communities that rely on them.

As part of a three-day PCCP-Mentorship Mission on Fisheries Crime, UNODC, together with the head of the Joined Permanent Container Unit (JPCU), met with the Fisheries Commission, Ghana in Accra on March 18, 2026.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaborative efforts, improving inter-agency coordination, and advancing strategies to combat fisheries-related crime while promoting sustainable fisheries in Ghana.
