Senegal – President Bassirou Diomaye Faye Receives a Delegation from Damen Shipyards Group

The President of the Republic of Senegal, His Excellency Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Faye, received on Thursday, June 11, 2026, a delegation from Damen Shipyards Group, a leading Dutch shipbuilding company specializing in the construction, maintenance, and repair of vessels. The delegation was led by Mr. Frederick Vandepitte, the Group’s Africa Director.

The discussions focused on strengthening the partnership between the Dutch group and the Société des Infrastructures de Réparation Navale (SIRN), as well as on Damen’s investment prospects in Senegal. Particular emphasis was placed on developing national capacities in the maritime sector through skills transfer, the training of qualified human resources, and support for strategic development projects.

The delegation also presented its plan to establish a training center dedicated to shipbuilding and ship repair professions. The initiative aims to foster the emergence of high-level local expertise and contribute to youth employment in Senegal.
