A record-breaking call at the Port of Tema, Ghana
On 2 August, the vessel Great Abidjan achieved a record-breaking call at the Port of Tema, setting a new operational benchmark for Grimaldi Group’s Deep Sea East Asia – South Africa – West Africa service.
During the call, the vessel discharged:
- 3,100 lane metres of rolling freight;
- 1,100 light vehicles;
- 350 TEUs;
- 120 lane metres of project cargo on Mafi trailers.
This outstanding operation further demonstrated the strength and reliability of a service designed to meet the growing logistics requirements of customers trading between Asia and Africa.
Operating on a fortnightly basis, the East Asia – South Africa – West Africa service provides direct connections with highly competitive transit times:
- Taicang & Ningbo – Lagos: 30 days
- Taicang & Ningbo – Tema: 32 days
- Durban – Lagos: 8 days
- Durban – Tema: 10 days
Developed as a premium East–West corridor maritime service, the network connects China’s leading industrial and ro-ro manufacturing hubs with the key African markets of South Africa, Nigeria and Ghana. Through the strategic PTML hub in Nigeria, the service also provides extensive coverage across West Africa, serving a wide range of ports from Casablanca to Luanda.
The service is operated by the latest-generation G5-class vessels, combining outstanding cargo capacity with enhanced environmental performance. Their advanced design enables a reduction of up to 43% in CO₂ emissions per tonne transported, reinforcing Grimaldi Group’s commitment to more sustainable and efficient maritime transport.
