On Saturday, October 22, 2022, the Minister of Transport of Cameroon, Mr. Jean Ernest Ngalle Bibehe, presided over the launching ceremony of the first caisson of the quays, as part of the works of Phase II of the extension of the deep water port of Kribi.
These caissons made by the China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) are cubic blocks of concrete 17 meters high, 21 meters long and 18 meters wide, and weighing more than 2,600 tons each, which will serve to delimit the field of berthing of ships at sea, along the port.
It should be noted that the launching of this first caisson is in itself an important step in the development of the port of Kribi.
As a reminder, Phase II of the extension of the port of Kribi will include the following facilities
– a new storage park and building area representing about 560,000 m2 ;
– 5 gantry cranes for containers;
– 15 RTGs, and other mobile machines, are planned for the operation of the port;
– a total length of the quay of 715m, i.e. double the current length.
