Captain Avantha Herath bids farewell to Port Victoria
After an illustrious journey with the Seychelles Ports Authority (SPA), Captain Avantha Herath who served as Harbour Master for a period of 20 months, bids farewell to Port Victoria with his contract coming to an end on Wednesday 31st July 2024.
Capt. Herath began his tenure with the SPA in December 2022 when Port Victoria was in dire need of someone to fill the position of Harbour Master. He soon became a cornerstone of the port’s operations. Known for his dedication and steady attention, Capt. Herath has been the guiding hand ensuring the smooth daily operations and safety of Port Victoria.
In a short send-off ceremony held at the SPA on Tuesday 30th July 2024, tokens of appreciation were bestowed upon the outgoing Harbour Master in the presence of the Chief Executive Mr. Sony Payet, the management team and colleagues.
Reflecting on his term as Harbour Master in Seychelles, Capt. Herath shared that despite the cultural differences and his need to adapt to the way of life upon moving to Seychelles, he was very welcomed by all his colleagues, who each in their own way, made his journey here one to be fondly remembered.
He further expressed gratitude for the opportunities and experiences gained and assured to all that Port Victoria will continue to thrive under a new leadership.
The SPA, along with the maritime community, has greatly benefitted from Capt. Herath’s expertise at the helm. In his remarks, CEO Payet said that it was a pleasure to have had Capt. Herath be part of the team, offering guidance, a surfeit of expertise and delivering beyond expectations what he was mandated to do and that now, it is an honour to have a Seychellois take up this very prestigious post in office.
