Congo Terminal has completed construction of the cold storage facility at the new East Mole port hub

21 October 2026 has been a crucial step in the construction of the new cold storage facility at the new East Mole port platform, with the completion of the structural works. This major project has involved the construction of 24 reefer jetties, providing a capacity of 1,680 reefer connections and thereby bringing Congo Terminal’s total capacity to 3,549 connections, up from 1,869 previously.

This new facility reflects Congo Terminal’s commitment to supporting the long-term growth of trade in frozen products in the region. By anticipating this shift in demand, the company is equipping itself with the necessary infrastructure to accommodate and handle, over the long term, a steadily increasing volume of reefer container traffic.

“This increase in capacity directly responds to the changing needs of the sub-region. With this new facility, Congo Terminal is strengthening its role as a key player in the cold chain, by offering more efficient infrastructure capable of sustainably supporting the growth in the flow of frozen and perishable goods,” explains Emmanuel ADDO, Operations Director at Congo Terminal.

Effective management of the cold chain is indeed a major challenge for all operators in the logistics and agri-food sectors. By ensuring optimal temperature control from the receipt to the dispatch of goods, this new cold storage facility directly meets the quality and food safety requirements expected by importers and exporters of frozen and perishable goods.
